Installed Borla UEL Headers, crazy rasp. Need Help.

So about a week ago I had my Borla UEL Headers finally installed. Take in consideration my current setup is J2 Quad Tip Catback, Tsudo Highflow Cat Front pipe, PLM MFG Over Pipe and of course Borla UEL Headers. The rasp this setup has is purely ridiculous. I am simply embarrassed to take my car above 2-3k Rpms. I have done a lot of reading around and people say to go for a resonated front pipe. Now my real question is, which resonated front pipe would be best. The Invidia Catless Resonated front pipe, or the HKS Catless resonated front pipe. The HKS is about $80 more than the Invidia, worth the extra? Any differences? Would this even help at all?

Thanks for your help!

Resonator(s) would help, but think that you will still get a fair amount of rasp :(

The Borla UEL headers don't allow much choice in catback to keep the volume low enough and the rasp down sadly

I originally was running stock headers, Perrin over pipe and Motiv Concepts test front pipe. This combination produced rasped between 3000 and 4000 rpm. I then went with the Invidia front pipe with resonator and the rasp remained at the same rpm. Moved on to the Tsudo front pipe with cat and the rasp was identical compared to the other two front pipes. At this time I added a Borla UEL header and I couldn't tell if the rasp was still there because the brat...brat...brat of the exhaust was very loud. I found the solution by going back to the oem front pipe and the exhaust sound is perfect for me - slightly louder with a nice growl and absolutely no rasp. I didn't notice any decrease in performance but the only dyno I did was with this set-up and the electric supercharger.

I would just find a shop locally that can weld on a resonator for you on your current setup.

The setups you listed get rid of the cat you have and add a resonator, not sure how much that will help.

I was also considering going back to the stock OEM catted front pipe, but I did t want to lose any performance.. You didn't notice anything?

Haha this is what I was thinking. The reason basically why I asked if it would even help. Removing a cat for a resonater, probably no noticeable change..

I think your catback is your problem in this setup. You can sit and change front pipes all day long, but you need a bigger muffler. My 3" Nameless system has rasp with a catted\resonated (non helmholtz) front pipe, resonated mid pipe, and the 5" mufflers on the axleback with a catless header. I'm changing it out for the Invidia Q300 because of the volume increase from the header. Also reducing the pipe size down to 2.36" with the invidia catted front pipe should help as well. Just waiting on a JDL overpipe to match my header before I put it all on.

Is the J2 catback 2.75" piping? That might be your issue right there as that's what is wrong with my 3" system. It's very hard to get rid of the rasp on a 3" system without a turbo.

you have the nameless 3inch midpipe too? I would be intrested in the axleback+midpipe if they are 3inch

Everything is 3" from the overpipe end to the axleback. I'm going to post a thread in the for sale section soon when I swap over. I think I'll just get the system rebuilt again when the time comes for turbo. Then again, I may go SC since I like my JDL header so much.

I had the same problem with my Perrin non resonated header-back exhaust and borla headers. I would order the Perrin resonated mid pipe. I have zero rasp.

Yes. The J2 catback is 2.75 piping.

Borla UEL headers, stock over pipe, stock front pipe, zeta performance cat back. Sounds amazing and no rasp. :)

i think the catback will have the most effect on your rasp and sound level

i have perrin overpipe> invidia resonated front pipe> q300 and theres no rasp, just a nice subtle tame sound.

actually too quiet for me so when my jdl uel headers come in, i hope it'll bring it together

I'll be running that setup with an Invidia catted front pipe and Q300. I promise it will raise the volume.

Would the Perrin resonated mid pipe work with a j2 catback exhaust?
