OEM cats only ?

Chaps

would I be right in saying that its no longer legal to run an aftermarket cat unless the vehicle is either out of warrenty or is over 80K miles?

Does this apply to CA and New York only?

StormTrooper 11-25-2013 02:44 PM

Everything is illegal..... But that's a different topic.

UK and US laws are different, in US every county in every state has different emission regulations.

So does this only effect CA and NY and in every other state its OK ?

Under federal law, it is illegal to remove your OEM catalytic converters. It's not a new thing, it's been that way for nearly 25 years.

The only thing that aftermarket hi-flow cats get you, are sufficient emissions control to pass inspections. They're still technically an illegal mod if anyone wanted to crawl under the car and check.

So, the ten-million dollar question, any benefit to cut-and-weld parts (Headers specifically), reusing the OEM cats?

jamesm 11-26-2013 08:01 PM

no. if you don't mind the smell and noise, go catless. if you do, get a high flow cat. if you live in a state that cares about that sort of thing, your probably breaking the law in either case. just keep the stock stuff for inspection time :).

I believe borla themselves posted "federal law" a while back that states removing/replacing any stock cat with anything but OEM is considered illegal, unless of course it is track use...
