Would this work to trick the tps sensor
 

Snow has hit and I have a set of 16" wheels and snow tires from my previous car. From reading all the forums it seems the frs is capable of driving with snow tires and a little extra weight. People are experiencing the TPS light coming on with aftermarket wheels. Since the tps is sensing all its information from the ECU....My question is what if I simply kept the set of stock wheels and tires in my car as I drove. It would add the extra weight and the ECU would still read it and not throw on the TPS light. Any thoughts?

I drove 350km with the stock wheels/tires/tpms sensors in the back and the light did not come on.

It'll work . The car will think the tires are in the car

Buddy of mine did that and his car lit up like a Christmas tree. Maybe it's a hit or miss? I don't know much about it, maybe you'll get lucky?

If the sensors are in the car and seeing enough pressure the light will definitely stay off, you *could* build a small PVC chamber and put all four sensors in it to keep the light off.

That said, driving around with all four tires will mean your back seats are always useless.

...You mean there exists a time when the rear seats aren't useless....?

you can swap the TPMS on your 16's if you want. thats what i did. my winter wheels have my STOCK tpms on them. or you can buy new sensors that piggy back off the current sensors. its fairly simple.

as far as needing weight in the car for snow, regardless its light. as long as you have a good tire you will be okay, i was able to drive through a few feet of snow last season with my snow tires.

this year i doubt i'll get away with that, as my car is too low.

The way I've been beating the annoying TPMS light w/ my aftermarket wheels is
I have my stock wheels w/ the TPMS sensors still in them sitting in the garage fairly close to where I park my car. Now if I leave my car on and idle for just a little, I trick the system into thinking I still have the stock wheels on (since theyre within detectable distance from the car).

Keep in mind the TPMS warning light will illuminate once you reach near 100 miles (or around there havent really payed too much attention to know the exact mileage before it gets tripped to come on again). Obviously it wont work if your taking a road trip or going cross country.

Works for me & keeps the annoying light off.

just a question: if the sensors need to see pressure, then how would just putting them in a pvc chamber keep the light off?

no i mean like 2 ft DEEP. car had no problems until i came to a full stop. then it was a problem :lol:
