Find out why the vintage model set a new record

Toyota may be synonymous with affordability, but the automaker is also renowned for its top-performing, quality vehicles, such as the 1967 Toyota 2000GT. This classic model is a perennial favorite of auto enthusiasts around the world, and is the holder of a new record for most expensive Asian car ever sold. The 2000GT was recently auctioned in Japan for an unprecedented $1.16 million, and our team at Caldwell Toyota Scion has the details.

We all know that Toyota makes great vehicles, but what makes the 1967 Toyota 2000GT so special? For starters, with only 351 2000GT models ever built, and merely 62 left-hand-drive cars (such as the one auctioned off), it is indeed a rare find. Thanks to its many advanced features, the 1967 2000GT is also undeniably ahead of its time. Features of the supercar include:
  • a 150-horsepower, dual overhead cam
  • 2.0-liter straight-six engine
  • a five-speed manual transmission
  • A reported top speed of over 135 miles per hour

Have you ever tried to fit in one? If you are over 5'10" and 160lb then you can forget it.

Sub-zero every day of the week.

IIRC, that little hatch behind the fender is where they put the battery for better weight/balance.
