Reverse lockout rattle fix

I found the source of my rattle was the plastic lockout ring loose on its nylon bushings. This method spaces the bushings more snugly against the ring.

Carefully tap out the spring pin that secures the ring. I used a small blunted nail and a sledge hammer.

Pull the nylon bushings off the shaft. Wrap above and below the slot 6-7 times with teflon tape.

Snap the bushings back on and reassemble.

My shifter is now rattle free, even winding out 3rd gear.

I really need to give this a try. Mine has gotten significantly louder every day. Its now the loudest part of my car. Thanks for the writeup!

There is a TSB for this concern.

I got a Beatrush reverse lockout and it makes a muffled "snick" sound when shifting fast from 3rd-4th. Reminds me of shifting sounds in the original Fast & the Furious :bellyroll:

Is there some way I can remedy this? I forgot to get some grease before installing it, so I just lubed the bore with residual grease from the OEM lockout. Maybe I can reach in there with something and grease it up from the bottom? Kinky, I know.

I already gouged one side of my lockout hammering that pin back in, I'd hate to try it again. Not to mention forcing that boot on again.

I have the kartboy short shifter rattle, can anyone confirm this works>? and its removed the same way via the punch out pin ?

I'll give this a try. I got the TSB done but it didn't help at all.

Lol I like my cars quiet.

After several months, my rattle is back, albeit to a lesser degree. I would wrap it so it is tight enough to create drag (>9 times?) on the lockout ring. As the tape compresses, it will loosen up, but hopefully prevent rattles from returning.

Thanks @clintavo. Did this for my Beatrush lockout, which was a tiny bit loose, and made some noise when shifting.

I did this fix tonight and it works great. In addition to the teflon tape, I got a small tube of white lithium grease and put a light, uniform coating all over the shift lever (and the area between the teflon tape), the flared base, and the bore of the lockout. A small amount around the nylon bushings for good measure too. My lockout is much tighter and quieter now. Hope it stays this way.
