My cheaper/simpler tranny mount
So I installed the KartBoy shift bushing, Whiteline bushing insert and Mtec shift springs. While installing the bushing insert, I noticed the slop in the center carrier bolt that goes through the bushing.
I've seen some solutions on the market for this, but I decided to fix it myself. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/02/u6ytaqu3.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/02/vureze9e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/02/upuve7u9.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/02/8y6yzaza.jpg It's just a simple tube I machined out of some aluminum round stock I had at the shop. I will say.. these simple mods have drastically improved shifting and the over all "feel". So much so, that I had a short shifter but decided not to install it and sent it back. The $200+ will be better spent elsewhere. |
What are the dimensions of this piece? (ID, OD, length) I'm thinking there might be an off-the-shelf bushing at McMaster-Carr that would work, depending on the size.

I can't remember the length, but it's 20mm ID, 28mm OD

Looks like there are four possible options, the most expensive of which is still under $5 SAE841 material 6658K47 (16mm long, might be too short, $2.84) 6658K48 (20mm long, $2.88) Alloy 932 7811K47 (16mm long, again, might be too short, $4.67) 7811K48 (20mm long, $4.74) Personally, I'd just grab a 7811K48 and give it a shot. The alloy 932 seems to be the better material, and 20mm long is probably the right length. If it's too long, cut or grind it down a little. |
question. Stiffing the transmission does it effect the stress on the engine bay / chassis? I read somewhere that because you are stiffing up one part of the car it creates stress points on other areas. This looks like a nice DIY find.

It might/might not. I'll be replacing the motor mounts soon anyways.

The Perrin one is pretty inexpensive
