Steering Feel Question Concerning Tic Solid Steering Bushings

So my car has the stock suspension and tires other than the TIC solid alumimum steering rack bushings and the whiteline rear subframe mounts.

The car's steering is certainly direct without sloop but its a little darty and quick to react at high speeds and sensative to road bumps and steet conditions.

I recently hit something driving the required me to replace a front wheel which was bent (no other damage done, even my tire survived). I got a new front alignment and make sure everything was in spec and undamaged.

I'd like the steering feel to be a tad heavier as well as a little less darty. Can I adjustment my alignment to accomplish this? Would urethane rack mounts be better than the solid ones?

buy a Lincoln

or go crazy on castor

I just installed Energy Suspension poly steering rack bushings, and they are pretty much solid. The PU, is just a thin layer around a solid metal sleeve. I don't poly would change anything.

I think you need to give slower more controlled inputs, or get wider tires to make it less darty.

As they say in electronics, a system is only as good as the controller.

You probably also bought the wrong car.

Not unhappy, just trying to dial things in a bit. I'm getting new tires soon which I hope will help some.

Big ass rear sway bar will help with the darty feeling.

if you want to dial things in, go spend 40 bucks on an indor go-kart session and bomb around the track for one race.

then when you get back in your car you'll feel as if you're driving a boat

problem solved.

happy driving.

Or drive my 1968 Datsun roadster...it will make your car feel like an F1 car afterwards.

(everyone loves the F1 comparisons these days. i was going to say spaceship)

Really though, better tires might solve your problem.

he wants LESS response... his car has too much!

Ah yes, in that case don't drive my Datsun! Do a couple sessions in a kart.

More caster will help.

Check tire pressure since it's the cheapest mod. Dial half a psi less in the rear. This should settle the car a bit. Steering assisted by an electric motor. Adding caster will improve the feel slightly.

Racecomp Engineering 10-31-2013 05:16 PM

^ That too. Tire pressures can make a big difference.

Wouldn't a little toe-in both front and rear help with this? It'll definitely make the car less darty.
