Automatic Shift Knob
 

Will a manual shift knob with a 10 x 1.25 pattern fit on an autmatic FRS.

It would fit, meaning the threads would match and it will screw on.

However, the boot of the shifter will look weird unless you get a retainer.

It won't fit without some sort of adapter, they are different thread sizes

Edit manual is 12x1.25 and auto is 8x1.25

The shift knob the OP posted is 10x1.25, which is the native thread size for AT.

You are correct that the manual is 12x1.25, which would mean an adapter would be required. These are available for a few bucks.

So would have to purchase one of these r-locks with the 10 X 1.25 shift knob and i would be straight?

I'm not sure.

Lookup 10x1.25 shift knob adapter or boot retainer. There is a sickspeed one as well as some Ford Mustang ones.

There's several threads touching the subject.
I'll resurrect this one instead of making a DIY thread for something as trivial.

After 2½ years loving my AT GT86 I decided on the following:

1. Don't like the shift knob. I rest my hand on it a lot (bad habit, I know) and it just doesn't feel good in my hand.

2. It's showing tiny signs of wear. I'll store it in a bag so if I want to sell the car it can look pristine.

3. Don't want a metal shift knob, they feel cold to me. Especially in winter.

So, I bought these of the "Gumball Series" from Sickspeed.

They feel like billiards/snooker balls and seems to be of excellent quality.
They came with 10x1.25 adapters and fits just fine, except they don't hold the boot up.
So I also got this:

They informed me that it would not fit an automatic ZN6, but I figured I could modify it somehow.
On inspection the diameter was way too big. There's enough metal so it would be possible to grind down the lip, but I don't have the tools.
I also found it to be too long for my taste.
It is nicely threaded (10x1.25) on top, so it won't rattle.

I cut it in half and grinded it down until it takes about the same amount of force to pull the boot over this as the original knob retainer.

Ended up with 3 parts:

Screwed the first two on like this, and slipped an O-ring down just to seal it a little better.

The yellow one will go in my truck, though. Along with the shiny Sickspeed stickers.
That is, if the poor truck turns out to have survived the dynamite incident which has no relevance here at all.

You can rest your hand all you want on the knob, since it ain't an MT?

Yes, it's probably OK to rest the hand on an AT knob.
I drive MT vehicles quite often, too. Still rest my hand on the knob. Haven't broken a gearbox yet.

The jury is still out on the maturity aspect, though. The Ministry of War and Finance (a.k.a. the mrs.) haven't seen it yet.

I suggest opening with the All-the-cool-kids-are-doing-it approach.

Oh, I think I'll stick with my "Is that another new pair of shoes? A bit flashy, aren't they?" routine.
