First Service Appointment: help with my punch list
Tomorrow AM I take my 10 series in for my first service at 5K mi at it's home dealership. I had the oil changed at 1K elsewhere, but I'm not even going to mention that fact tomorrow.
So, obvi I will have the oil changed. My question is what else have twins owners had done or had luck with getting the dealer to do for repair/maintenance? Here's what I have so far: -change oil -rotate tires -engine makes a squeaking/chirping sound at idle - i know it's the Crickets but i will play dumb for them as I want the crickets documented on my file and vehicle history in Scion/Toyota database. -shifting gears grinds in 1-2-3-4. -loose coin or nut rolling around inside drivers door. What else to ask for at the dealer 1st service? I plan on being relentless with the Crickets and continue to present my car to the dealer with the Cricket complaint for as long as it continues to happen. |
I'm over 5k and haven't spent a dime at a dealership.. why not change oil/rotate tires yourself? it's part of the fun of ownership IMHO.

i hope you dont come back to this thread and say your dealer filled your car with 7qts of oil.
lots of horror stories has surfaced here in the forums DIY is the best! |
I like free things and this oil change is free. I appreciate the lack of confidence in the dunce techs who do this work at dealer service but I'm thinking I can get tires rotated for free. First thing I do when I leave the dealer will be to check the oil level.

I'm going to get my first oil change free soon also so this is helpful. After that it'll be a DIY.. I just want the first one at least to be done by them. I pretty much have the same issues as you do. Also what is this 7 qt of oil horror story about?

They do rotate the tires for free, unless you have a staggered setup like myself. I believe it's only free for the first three times, after that I would suggest doing it yourself.

Wash the entire car, detail it inside and out, test drive for faults, remove and rebuild engine and transmission just to ensure there are no defects......
Seriously? Change the oil and filter but only because Subaru insists, their required change interval is positively antediluvian. That's it. |
-Have em put silicone on your window seals
-Top off all fluids -mark the oil filter so you know they actually changed it Not many mechanics service cars like it's their own. Laugh if you want but cars are too big of an investment to cut corners on. Theres been too many horror stories. Don't have faith in dealerships until you get to know them |
x2 on marking filter. Scratch the top with your keys and also make mark on wheel, so you know they rotated it (put a bit of tire shine on front wheels)

Do you have a winter beater? If you don't, I see no need to rotate the wheels if you're going to throw winter tires on them in a few weeks.
