1st gear + 0 Acceleration: Will not stall
1 Attachment(s)
Do a little experiment and the car will not stall: Standing still, put 1st gear and gently release the clutch, don’t step on the gas, your car will start rolling. (Default ~700 RPM will not let engine stall)
Also if you are driving slowly, you can shift down from 2nd to 1st and after releasing the clutch do not step on any of pedals. The car will continue in a slow roll and again not stalling. |
So you're talking about taking off from a dead stop without using the throttle?

yes sir.

Have you ever found a car that couldn't do this?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure all cars can do this. That's why I wasn't sure if I was reading it correctly or not. You could probably even do this in 3rd gear if you babied it enough. And you could probably take off in 6th gear with some gas. Not recommended, though.

Try holding the brake in and test your theory.

Every manual I've ever driven was able to get off to a rolling start with the clutch eased in from a standstill without applying any gas. On the other hand, I've stalled every one of these cars inadvertently by releasing the clutch too fast or if I didn't apply enough gas while starting on an incline.
I've often used this when teaching someone to drive stick - forget the gas at first and learn where the clutch contact point is, then learn how much you have to ease it out to keep the car going forward. |

Why is that an experiment? I do this almost all the time..
I use little to no gas when starting out.. Used to driving big V8's.. Works for this tiny motor too... But takes some conscious effort To do it smoothly.. Be one with the machine.. |
This is like the Fox News of threads.
