perrin alittle off center exhaust

I cant find where the thread is but does anyone else have the issue of tips not lining up..

The directions tell you to loosen up the vband clamps and turn the middle pipe until they line up. Mine looks fine.

+1 for the clamps mine didnt align either but got em damn close by trial and error with the clamps and pipe.

mine is a little off as well. did not notice until it had been on for a few weeks. too lazy to fix kt

Nardi330 10-09-2013 10:25 PM

have someone to hold the muffler while tightening the v clamps make it much easier.

feldy 10-09-2013 11:03 PM

I have bad the same issue. Have not tried fixing it yet. Seems fine until the very last clamp then it goes off a little on the right.

wparsons 10-10-2013 12:27 PM

Twist the last piece of pipe either up or down to keep the muffler properly aligned.

You need two people and some patience, but you can get it right.

tennisfreak 10-10-2013 01:24 PM

Just a though but doesn't having to twist the pipes and then tighten up, vs just tightening up the way it naturally hangs, create extra stress on the whole system?

It seems like it would create stress on the welds, hangers, and joints since you are twisting the pipe by force and then tightening everything up.

spitfire481 10-10-2013 01:32 PM

the mounts are rubber, stress is not really a problem

qoncept 10-10-2013 01:34 PM

There's enough friction that it doesn't just "naturally hang." It hangs wherever you put it.

Think about it in reverse. Perrin built the prototype exhaust, probably out of a single piece, with everything properly aligned. They then cut it up in a couple places to make it easier to ship/install/whatever and added v-band flanges. Then they built jigs and started producting them. If they had used bolted flanges (which are more prone to leak and need gaskets, etc), it would line up every time. Because they chose (arguably) better v-band, you can (and probably will) install it so it's not lined up exactly the way it was designed. But when it IS lined up correctly, it's exactly like the prototype.

Just got mine, hope its not a hard fix.

Try loosening the clamps a little less. Really you want them just loose enough that you can turn it but not allow it to turn freely.
