Idea for 10 Series Owner, but have no idea how to accomplish.

I really want to debadge my light up scion emblems and replace them with the toyota ones, but at the same time I don't want to lose those light up features. So my idea, if possible, maybe somehow somewhere someone.

What if someone made light up emblems for the boxer logo on the fenders? It could be two toned as well. White inside, blue border. Then u can just rewire the front and back emblems to the side. Yay? nay? and have (never thought i would be saying this) :w00t: toyota emblems! ahaha

with the right amount of time and money, anything can be done, led mods are really pretty easy..

just get a spare 86 badge, trace it onto a piece of 1/8" acrylic, cut it out, fill it with a few led's, then you just need some 3m tape and a little wire to get to the old badge lighting..

from the wiring layout i've seen in this thread, it looks like the control module might have the current limiting resistors built into it, so be sure to measure the voltage of the stock setup before trying it all though, as that would affect the type of led's you can use to backlight the new acrylic piece.

They're pricey but you asked for an option...

Tommy Kaira LED Emblems

As for the 86 emblem, I'm sure like another member said you could get an acrylic baking cut out and have someone wire up some LEDs to them. Try contacting some specialty car stereo places that are familiar with making custom enclosures and work frequently with acrylic and LEDs.

This is where I got my Mitsubishi Eclipse emblems done. Worth a email to see what they can do.

i second this one. i've been an absolute ass to that guy, and he's been nothing but nice back.. $200 is way too much for me to pay for something like that, but he's got a proven process that doesn't look like a cheap knockoff like the oem 10 series badges look like..

No offense but browsing through the Ampedemblem customer pics it does look a bit cheap, IMO. You can obviously see hot spots made from the LEDs. What I mean by this is that the light output isn't every even throughout the emblem. Just doesn't look right to me.

no offense to me-- i've got nothing to do with ampd, as i said, i've just harassed him for a while about his methods, and he stayed respectable through it. if it wasn't for the exorbitant cost of the 10 series emblems, i wouldn't even consider him as an option.
here, read for yourself
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...nswered-please

i think it has something to do with the technique he uses.. the 10 series uses a piece of acrylic that tends to diffuse the light and make it appear smoother, while the ampd iteration doesn't use acrylic to diffuse it the same way. honestly, i don't know how the ampd emblems are lit, as i don't have a good enough reason to buy a $200 mod to simply tear it apart..

i like the ampd emblems because they are thinner and don't make it apparent that anything has been added to the badge until the light is turned on, but as you pointed out, without that extra piece of acrylic to diffuse the light, the hotspots are a lot worse..

personally, i think the 10 series emblems look cheap because it's relatively easy to add a chunk of acrylic like that below an emblem..
