P3Cars vent gauge installation

I didn't see much info on this so I snapped a few pics while I installed my gauge yesterday. I did the install on my lunch break in the parking lot, it only took 10 minutes!

I got it here: http://www.p3cars.com/subaru-brz-sci...s-toyota-ft86/

Here's what comes in the box if you order the pre-installed gauge.

Remove the vent by prying around the edge. I used a plastic panel tool from Harbor Freight. It pops out easily.

Sneak the cable down behind the dash panel.

Snap the vent into place. The skinny side goes up.

Open the control box and cables. The control box came in a static-proof bag!

Plug into the OBD port and make the rest of your connections with the cables loose on the floor. I'm not using any of the aux channels yet so I just zip-tied these to the main cable.

Last I zip-tied everything up out of sight under the dash. It was too dark under the dash to get a pic, but it's easy. I started the car and the gauge was ready to go! This is the water temp screen.

It monitors AFR's too (and a lot more). Can't wait to get the Innovate supercharger and use this to monitor boost.

Pretty damn sweet if you ask me, I really like the integrated approach. I have an old ScanGauge and I remember guys using velcro to stick the on the dash or column. This is sooooo much nicer looking. The read-out matches the factory orange color on my gauge cluster too.

Thanks for this post. I've had my eye on this gauge for awhile now. Super clean install! :)

Thanks,
Rick

There are options on their site, yours is pre installed housing selection??

Did you buy just the gauge or the whole vent? Do you think installing the gauge in your own vent would be easy? (Saves some $ if you do)

Yes I got the pre-installed selection, you can buy just the gauge and install it yourself to save some money. I saw a how-to somewhere, it looked pretty easy.

Auto-Dimming

I didn't get a chance to tidy up my install but essentially the wire I labeled as the positive (+) trigger parking lights is where you want to tap into (i.e. military splice) with the green wire from the P3Cars gauge.

Once done, go into the gauge configuration settings and change the dimmer setting to "On.A" then hold the right button to save the option (you gauge will then reset).

Now when you turn on the lights, or your lights come on automatically, the gauge will dim.

Got guage today. Noticed green wire has a pre crimped spade, is this made now to directly plug in somewhere or still need to tap into parking wire for dimmer? If anyone knows I'd sure like to know! :)

Thx

That's how all of them come. There should be spades on the blue and brown auxiliary wires too. You still need to tap.

Ahhh ok wasn't sure on that. The plugs/wires etc you show in pics, are those behind the hood latch release panel lower left? Pretty sure just confirming. I'll need to see if I can find some of those squeeze quick wire taps, pretty sure these wires are around 18 guage by appearance.

Yes.

Military splicing is the preferred method. I avoid t-taps at all cost
