BRZ Front Plate Relocation - No (visible ) Holes
 

I've been driving my BRZ for 5 months without a front license plate. Yesterday I got pulled over (didn't get a ticket...the officer was shocked to see an old man driving the car) and I decided it was time to install a front plate. When I went out to install the factory plate to the black bar I just couldn't bring myself to drill the first hole. Holding the bracket in my hand up-side down it occurred to me that with a little modification I could have the plate extend below the black bar rather then in front of it.

First step was to locate where I wanted the holes in the frame. I drilled two holes as close to the 90 degree bracket using a nut as a guide. I then cut the front plate holder so I had just enough room to capture the top mounting holes in the plate. I used a cut off wheel and got this:

A cut off wheel actually melts the plastic, so I used a knife edge to debur the plastic:

I had a license plate frame sitting in my garage so I used that reinforce and strengthen the plate:

I also reused the hardware that came with the factory plate kit. I cut a 3/16 long piece of hose to use as a spacer:

I inserted the 10mm bolt through two holes that I made in the plastic frame and held those in place with my hose-spacers:

I then drilled two holes from below the black bar. I used the clip nut from the factory kit to ease installation. Here's the result. Total cost $0.00

There are no visible holes so if I ever move to a state that doesn't require a front plate I wont have to replace the black bar. I also think this is a more natural looking location for the plate. Plenty of room for airflow too.
