Power limit for our transmission? TESTED YET?

Does anybody know how much the gearbox can hold in terms of power? Torque?

...curious to know how hard the stock gearboxes have been pushed.

600tq?

cf6mech 09-20-2013 05:29 AM

The transmission is rated at 210ftlbs. of torque.

Really?! Where did you get info?

Seems awfully low...

That's what the manufacturer claims, but people are running double (or more) than that without it grenading. Internally it's very similar to the gearbox in an S15 silvia (SR20DET).

Does the AT have a listed TQ limit?

hmong337 09-20-2013 10:35 AM

Crawford BRZ is using the stock gearbox, no?

The clutch slips at about 210ftlbs and I think don at accelerated said the tranny starts having issues around 350ftlbs

Tansey86 09-20-2013 10:55 AM

The one thing this car has going for it is its weight. Given it only weighs 2700 lbs, having a tranny that is rated at a specific torque number in a heavier car(say 3200lbs), will last longer because of the weight difference.

People are running high hp on the manual and havent grenanded....yet. Down the line they will be dropping left and right by people running a decent amount of power. Both MT's and AT's have fallen to power.

Care to elaborate? How did you exactly come to that number? Whats the life span of a transmission at that power level?

If someone knows after 1 year the lifespan at XXX torque level, it is not much/long

True. Car needs to be out longer to really test maximum power thresholds I think.

ZionsWrath 09-20-2013 12:25 PM

I guess the longer you don't hear about trans explosions left and right the better lol

So count every day you don't know as better ?
