BRZ's best selling color

TOKYO -- Subaru’s BRZ sporty coupe, scheduled to go on sale in the United States April 20, is off to a brisk start in Japan, selling at a monthly rate quadruple initial forecasts.
Since the car’s Feb. 3 debut, Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. has sold 3,551 of the rear-wheel-drive BRZs, the company said in a statement today.
Subaru had forecast monthly sales of only 450 units in Japan. But it is not uncommon for newly released models in Japan to generate explosive orders at first before tapering off.
The sporty 2.0-liter, four-cylinder BRZ, which starts at 2.06 million yen ($24,830) in Japan for a stripped-down version, is the platform-sharing twin of Toyota’s Scion FR-S.
The U.S. monthly sales goal for the BRZ is 500.
Initial sales data suggest the BRZ is tapping a coveted younger customer base attracted to the car’s promise of sportier driving.
So far, nearly 60 percent of BRZ customers are under 40 years of age -- and two-thirds are picking the six-speed manual over the automatic transmission. The top-selling color is WR blue mica, in a nod to the signature hue of Subaru’s WRX performance line.

Hehe cool. I thought this would be the case. I'm glad I'll be one of the many blues :)

I have to admit the car looks very nice in this color but I'm really glad I went with GBS. Along with red it's going to be the unicorn of the colors.

I was thinking all I'd see in my area are WRB BRZ's but based on the map no one seems to have gotten WRB near me. Must be something in the water :bonk:

I am happy I ordered Lightning Red. At least I will be able to pick my car out at BRZ meets

Did anyone see a citation for the info in the article? Did he get it straight from Subaru, or is he just approximating the percentages that have been collected here?

It was a press release done by Fuji Heavy Industries.

Ah, my mistake. Based on the phrasing of the article, I thought they were talking about color, transmission, and age data for the US market pre-orders, not the Japanese sales.

The article isn't written very well but I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers fall close to those in the U.S. as well.

I have to say it's arguably the best color for a Subaru but I don't want mine to look like every other one. I love seeing Plasma blue Imprezas and WRX's, so I think I'll be very happy with Galaxy Blue.

I guess no one noticed/cared about "The sporty 2.0-liter, four-cylinder BRZ, which starts at 2.06 million yen ($24,830) in Japan for a stripped-down version".

That's not bad! Let's hope it's 25 to start in the US.

At that price its much closer to the SCION FR-S...
because the Scion is basically the stripped down verison
with a pioneer sound system, speakers and AC ..
(( Not even a trunk liner )) :word:

From the pics the Galaxy Blue looked like a great choice! I like the BRZ in both hues of Blue; however, the Dark Grey did it for me... Along with what appears to be the other 15% of orders posted in the forum! lol But yeah, you'll have a rare color with what sounds like will be a rare car!

satin white pearl has got to be a close second

switchlanez 04-04-2012 09:19 PM

A rare car will be rare, regardless of color. There will be 5x more FR-Ss than BRZs sharing all the same BRZ colors except WRB. An average person who can't tell the difference between the twins might think WRB is some super exclusive paint scheme.
