Light Wight Battery Question
 

I noticed that our car appreciate wight saving significantly. So I was looking to save wight without sacrificing the Daily Driver reliability.
So I was looking into light wight batteries for a while now but didnt buy one because I wanted it to be installed like an OEM.

Now with PTuning new Battery Tray it triggered the search again.

I was narrowing my battery options between Shurai and Full Spectrum because they offer the most wight saving.

Shurai LFX36L3-BS12 is used in the famous TRD Griffon.

In term of more technical comparison between the two, I dont have any idea and here where I am asking for advice. What is the difference between these two? what will be better for a daily driver?

When going smaller/lighter battery I always compare the battery prospects I'm considering to the OEM battery Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating as I live in a cold weather region for winters. If you don't live in the cold, you can get away with a lot smaller/lighter battery compared to somebody in a cold region.

When comparing CCA of Shurai it is very good at 549 vs OEM is 390 I think. Didn't see a CCA rating for Full Spectrum.

The Full Spectrum have 375 cranking Amps. still close to OEM.

go with Shurai I know a lot of people using them and they rock and where are you located ? Do you have Harsh winters or super hot summers?

You should be good with the shurai the colds and the harsh summers are really what kills batteries but CCA's come into play in the winter

shurai is prooven and tried, while personally I have never heard of full spectrum with the shurai only being 5lbs i doubt you will save much more weight. You want reliability not issues.

Braille 21lbs, 18lbs or 15lbs should do the job. They are great batteries with 2 year warranty.

Id go with oddessey or deka, braille are just rebranded those

We can definitely accommodate the Pulse P3 battery on our tray per your question in our other post. Although it is probably one of the lightest LI battery capable of starting the frs/brz. The CCA and reserve capacity of the shorai LFX36L3-BS12 is more inline with what you would want for a daily driver. Now if you were using your car for a dedicated race car, I say go for the lightest battery possible like the Pulse P3 (2.2#) or ballistic Evo2 16CellHD (3.5#) or even the smaller shorai LFX27L3-BS12 (4#).

But even with the largest shorai @ 5#, you're already saving 24+ lbs over the oem battery setup...that is a huge weight savings.

For comparison, the Shorai LFX36L3-BS12:

After the Cold Cranking Amps, the most important specification is the Amp Hour capacity. This determines how long it will take the battery to completely discharge under a given load.

Stock battery is 48AH. This means that if you had a 1A load running constantly (say you left the dome light on, and in this hypothetical situation let's say that dome light pulls 1A, for example), the battery would discharge in 48 hours. The Shorai would last 36 hours under the same conditions, and the Braille would last 15.

Not trying to crap all over FT86Speedfactory's product, but it weighs twice as much, with half the capacity, and is only $86 cheaper than the Shorai (when you exclude the mounting kit).

So all these eco-weenies driving their Priuses are actually good for something: They are driving the prices of Lithium batteries down to the point where they are almost as cheap as the older Lead Acid designs.

Might sound obvious as hell after this discussion, but with the Shorai's CCA well above the stock battery, would it be a safe call running this battery through cold weather (NY winters)?
