Sound shield over fuel pump?
 

Is that just a sound shield covering the high pressure fuel pump to reduce the crickets?

I took it off when I was diagnosing the sound awhile ago. Thing is darn heavy and is insulated with foam.

I doubt its for heat since its on top?

If so doesn't that prove toyota/subaru knew of the problem before hand?

Possible good weight saving!

Except when you remove it, your car will sound like a swarm of locusts as it drives by. My sanity is not worth a pound of weight savings.

And Toyota knew that all high pressure fuel pumps make noise. Nature of the beast.
