Transmission oil change
 

Anyone change their auto tranny oil yet? Was it hard? Or does it have that "lifetime oil" crap?

But to answer your questions:
1) Yes many people have for lower trans temps, and smoother shifts when the tranny is cold.
2) Not hard if you have some mechanical expertise and have all the proper tools and parts (extremely suggested to have some sort of fluid evacuation tool)
3) As for life no its not that never replace for the lifetime of the tranny crap you see on other more widely sold cars.

But this is from toyota on that last part:

Automatic Transmission: TX6A

This transmission is a 6-speed super ECT multi-mode automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters, other features include:
-Pattern select switch (SPORT/SNOW mode)
-Flex lock-up control
-Blipping downshift Control
-ATF warmer

Fluid level will not be able to be service without toyota special service tools and toyota specific operating conditions <-ignore this bullcrap they don't want you doing it yourself for free.

Fluid will be inspected every 30,000 miles or 30 months and will be replaced every 60,000 miles or 60 months and uses Toyota Specific World Standard fluid with capacaties of 7.9 quarts


Manual Transmission: TL70

This transmission is a 6-speed manual transmission with clutch start switch and pull collar to access reverse, also features MT shift indicator and shift-up indicator on the combo meter

fluid will be API-GL-3 75w90 and should be inspected every 22.5 months or 22,500 miles, replaced as needed by inspection.

Limited Slip Torsen Differential (if you ever want to replace the gear oil too):

Fluid type: API GL-5 Toyota Genuine Differential Gear oil LX, will hold 1.22 quarts and should be inspected every 7.5 months or 7,500 miles.



So in the end the manual and auto fluid is replaced on an inspection based deal, and doesn't last the lifetime

Rear diff only has 1.22 qts? Doesn't seem like a lot... how many for the manual tranny? Is it the same as the auto?

is this one feature? Or 2 separate ones? I've only seen the red light that flashes...

No there is quite a difference Auto tranny has 7.5 quarts of atf fluid and the manual takes about 2.2-2.4 you should just fill it till it spills out a bit to be safe.

I do believe it is only one single feature.

Good info, but the day is not helpful for an auto. If you just pop the drain plug maybe 2 qts will come out. I have not done it myself yet, but try YouTube for the various ways to do an AT fluid swap. An extra person seems very helpful.

otherwise there is no guarantee all of the fluid can be removed.:thumbsup:

Or you can use the engine as the pump when it comes to the AT and save the money as those pumps are notcheap. If you disconnect the cooling line from the rad you can get the fluid out that way. There are plenty of YouTube DIYs showing how as its an empty pour repeat process as you can't just let it run dry.

Your way would work with the pump, just can be done cheaper if your up to using a little more fluid to make sure its all out. Not trying to argue just trying to give OP his options.

I assume they are talking about the flashing red light and the little flashing up arrow on the combo meter that shows the mpg, odometer, temp, etc...
Supposedly tells you when to shift for max fuel efficiency.

1.22qts is actually a pretty generous amount. any more and that would be alot.
