is it ok to turn the AC on and off all the time?
i have the brz limited, so every time i turn on the fan, the AC light also turns on. I don't need the air to be de-humidified so i turn off the AC right away. Is this bad when the AC starts and i shut it off right away?

Depressing the button over time will eventually wear it out but unless you're shutting it off 3 times in an hour or something ridiculous I don't see it as being an issue. If the car reached the temp in the first few minutes and shut the compressor off the same thing would happen.
Can you try just setting the temp a little higher? Our Lancer has the auto HVAC and we set it for the mid-temp just so the compressor doesn't come on during start-up unless it's crazy hot out. |
The compressor is designed to turn off when the engine is under heavy load, also it is deferent from your house a/c compressor in that it is designed to not overheat or seize when toggled on and of over a short period of time.
Just set the temp where you want it and let the electronics do the rest. |
If you have the climate control it remembers how you left it when you switched off. If you switch off the AC in the automatic version it stays off until you select AC or AUTO.
In Canada the automatic climate control came on the Sport Tech trim, top model only. Still, I am puzzled as to why the AC would switch on if left off when you switched off the car. Are you sure you aren't looking at the recirc light/button. That comes on in hot weather when you switch on. |

The recirc light comes on only when its hot but the AC light comes on everytime when i turn on the fan even if i turn off AC before i shut off the car.
What temp do u guys set at so that AC light doesnt turn on? Quote:

I noticed this too, every time I turn the fan on the A/C will also automatically turn on. Sort of just used to turn knob and push the in-car circ to off and a/c to off now.

I do the same thing in the morning. Twist the fan knob for some air, then tap the recirc and AC buttons right away to shut them off.

What temp do you have your hvac set to? The A/C button stays lit, but it won't run unless the interior temperture of the car is above what you set the hvac to... BTW, A/C cools the air, it dehumidifies to a point, but it isn't a dehumidifier as it leaves about 40 to 60% of relative humidity...

You're turning on the car with the defrost on. Defrost = A/C on.
I've never had any issue with the A/C being on when first starting the car, as I always blow the fan on max for a few seconds to get rid of excessive condensation buildup on the coils so it doesn't smell when I get back in the car. -alex |
Are you turning the system off? I just leave the fan on low setting when I turn off the car. When I turn the car back on, the settings are exactly how they were when I turn it back on.
If you turn off the system, you have to hit "auto" to have it come on? Then it might decide to put the AC on depending how its set up? Not sure... but again, I just leave it and turn the AC switch on/off when I want. |
Just to be clear, what RPM qualifies as heavy load so the compressor turns off?

Normally I can't tell when the compressor turns off other than feeling the cool air turning to warm air, but that that is a delayed test. I am sure that it turns off after 4-5k RPMs or so, but not for sure. At least not without looking at the ECU's code. |
