Perrin rear shifter bushing = sloppier shifts?
I installed the perrin rear shifter bushing a couple weeks ago and it seemed ok for the first day or so but then started encountering much more sloppiness and resistance, mostly in the lower gears. Going into 1st from a stop the shifter feels like it's rubbing all over everything. 3rd gear is especially annoying... feels like it's hitting the corner of a wall and makes a bit of a knocking noise as it goes in. Sometimes it's nice and smooth but sometimes it feels like crap. Anyone else have this issue? Should i try the kartboy bushing instead?

replacement part on its way :)
in the meantime, anyone have any similar experience? I might put my stock bushing back in tomorrow to make 100% sure that's the problem. figure might as well since it's becoming a huge pain to drive. It feels way more crunchy than ever before |
It *could* be that the perrin bushing is just transmitting more of the feel to your hand than the OEM part did. If that's the case, anything stiffer than stock is going to have the same effect.
To me it sounds like it feels worse sometimes because you're not hitting the gate dead on, but other shifts you nail it so it feels better. There might be something wrong with the part you have, but that's my guess at the issue. |

Just put the stock one back on and as of now it seems to be better (as good as this thing is going to be). The inside of the Perrin bushing seems to be all shredded and torn up. I guess something was slightly off and that was probably the reason for it shifting so poorly. I'll give the replacement a try when it comes in

REAR SHIFTER BUSHING FOR FR-S
Did you have any trouble with the replacement REAR SHIFTER BUSHING from Perrin?
|
Wow - this thread got resurrected from the dead - I have the part and my car shifts very well. The galling inside the receptacle indicates the part was either misaligned or starved of lubrication.
