LED Turn Signal Issue

Hey guys. I've run into a minor issue with my LED turn signals. This past weekend I installed the Toyota USDM fog light kit with 6000k LED's. They work great, have 0 issues with them coming on. The kit has one wire that plugs into the signal harness in the spot where a blue stopper is in it. The other wire is just a ground wire on each fog. I've also got Tom's LED tail lights which were not repinned and full plug and play.

The issue I'm having now is my 6000k LED turn signals will only light up on signaling and hazard lights. If I turn the parking lights on or my HID's on, (fogs off) they do not illuminate as marker lights. I put back in the Amber stock turn signals and they do light up, so I know a fuse is not blown. The amber ones lit up on both sides.

I've swapped between 2 LED flasher relays, and the stock one as well with no change. I've reversed the LED turn signals on each side and swapped the bulbs from driver to passenger with no change. I've run out of ideas and I'm wondering if anyone else knowledgeable with electric might know the issue I'm running into. I've thought about it possibly needing a resistor but I am unsure.

If these lights only have two wires and one is ground, they're only a single circuit light (blinker OR marker). You have to have three wires for a dual circuit light (blinker AND marker).

Even if the stock bulb performs in that same manner? The LED just doesn't perform the marker function but does blink.

You said you tapped in to only one wire and sent the other to ground. That's only one circuit. The stock turn signal/marker bulbs are 7443s. Those are dual-element bulbs, so they have three wires. You'll need to have a dual circuit light to replace them to preserve functionality.

Is this the kit you're talking about?

I found the problem:

Missing the two pins for the marker feature. This would explain why I only see turn signals.

I was going to say, if it was the kit I linked above, you're reusing your stock light housings and the wires you're talking about are for the fogs. In that case I was going to ask if you got 7443 or 7440 replacement bulbs. Looks like you had the same thought. :) Easy fix.

Would switchbacks not fix this issue?

4 Pin LED's will fix it. The LED's I received are only two pinned which only allow signaling. The other two pins are the marker function like the stock bulb has.

Learned a lot from this. Yes, that is the fog light kit I did. Very simple install. They look amazing with 6000k LED's in them to match my HID's.

I'm already working with HID_Powerhouse to get replacements. Kenneth has outstanding service as my entire car's LED's (Minus the Tom's tails) are from him.

Glad we got it sorted out (note: marker lights disabled) =) Now you are good to go XD

Enjoy your new goodies!

Yep, I totally spaced on I had them ordered this way to prevent too much lighting with the fogs on. Unless there was a way to disable the turn signal markers while fogs were on then keep the signal function. That seems like a lot of work.

Here is the result:

Thanks again Ken! Full LED solution on my car and the quality is outstanding!

One word: switchbacks
