Aeroquip socketless AN fittings / hose question
 

Wanted to post this more generally as the homebrew oil thread might not get enough traffic.

I installed a oil cooler this weekend using the mocal sandwich and aeroquip AN 10' hose and aeroquip sock less fittings.

I appeared to have a slight oil leak/drip with one of the aeroquip fittings near the sandwich plate. I tightened them both down further and it appears to have largely gone away but I still detect a hint of oil on the bottom of one of the fittings after driving (the potential area is where the fitting screw and housing meet, not the hose).

We used locktight on the threads so I'm pretty confident that if there is a issue its the fitting not where the fitting meets the sandwhich or the hose.

Car drives fine, warms up fine, oil level is stable. initial drip was tiny and not detected when we tested the car prior to driving.

1. Do the aeroquip fittings take time to seal?

2. If I have a bad fitting, can I replace without damaging the sandwhich or hose?

3. Do I need to replace the hose if I replace the fitting? I'm not sure what happens when you try to remove a socketless fitting from the hose.

I intend to inspect further tomorrow and continue testing, but I'm not sure what to expect with the aeroquip products having never used them.

Thoughts on other solutions? tighten more?

if it's leaking from the cone seat of the fitting, remove and inspect the seat faces on both sides, if they're free of scratches/dents then they should seal just fine.

If you have AN to NPT fittings in the sandwich plate, I use a Loctite liquid thread sealer when installing those fittings.

If you have a damaged aeroquip fitting, you basically have to cut the hose off just after the fitting and press in a new one.
