Suggestion to Toyota: Cheap steelies on a track model
 

How about the option to downgrade the wheels (credit like $900 or however much the stock wheels and tires cost) and ship track models with cheap steelies in a 15"x6" or 16"x6" (depending on the brake size) so we can slap the wheels of our choice on the car once we make our purchase?

What do you guys think?

The idea is awesome... but the reality will probably be they will try to bundle it with some other "track" package or something. And that honestly could go either way. It might be all awesome things that people want to have (a la Genesis Track Package - LSD, Brembos, etc)... or it might be just a bunch of stupid things to make it a package and then wouldn't be worth it.

That's how the EVO RS came in Japan... Steel wheels, no radio, no power anything, light weight aluminum roof.

Anyway... If the FT comes with 15s I want a credit for the crappy brakes that fit under them!

Steelies good....but i hope it would offset the cost of the car enough for me to get good aftermarket rims.

The reason that I voted no is because I will most likely be mounting all-season tires on the wheels that come with the car and purchasing an aftermarket set of wheels to put summer tires on. It's generally a good idea in climates where you get snow in the winter, me thinks.

really depends on how much it would save and how bad the factory alloys look.. i really dont like the OEM wheels that keep being shown.

I agree...the wheels on the concept have to go but it really doesn't matter to me. I would change the wheels right away.

I also agree with the tiny brakes that would have to fit under 15's which is why I think if it were done, it would be 16's minimum. Alloys are probably $1500-2000 for stocks with stock tires maybe? Steelies would be worth maybe $300?? the corresponding tires maybe $300-400 or so? So if they credited us $1000 for steelies and the smaller tires, I'd take it.

I live in San Diego so weather isn't an issue for me but I understand how some people would like to have a winter and summer set. They could then opt for the alloy option.

That's why I think having cheap steelies would be an option only on the track model where the standard models (including track) would come with stock alloys...it's a win win if you ask me...

In 2004 the EVO came in 2 trims... The RS was a stripped down version that was also much more affordable while still having the same powertrain and brembo brakes.

EVO VIII RS: $26,799 msrp
Standard EVO VIII: $29,999 msrp

Toyota could do something similar, with similar differences in price.

Agreed. Really don't want any wheel size that would necessitate shitty brakes unless Enough comes of to buy some decent ones to replace em.

are you retarded?? read my post very carefully. Most enthusiasts change their wheels anyway so why pay more for wheels you don't want?
