Berk Dual Muffler Delete Install Question

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...10165741-2.jpg

So I just received it in the mail today and my buddy and I were going to put it on a ramp and install it. But his garage was robbed the day before I got it in the mail. I don't want to buy the tools to do it and use my jack.

How much do you think it's going to cost me to get it done at a shop?
Any socal shops near burbank/glendale/pasadena that won't rip me off?

Thanks guys.

You don't need ramps/jack to install. All you need is two wrenches to unbolt the stock axelback and some pliers to push the hangers out of the bushings.

installing this only takes me 15-20 minutes every time i do an install.

shops would definitely charge you an hour of work.

i suggest DIY. you dont need a jack.

i can install these mufflers with only hand tools.

wrench your own ride!

The worst part is wiggling the stock muffler off the rubber hangers - that part takes about 10 minutes on the ground without ramps using a basic ratchet set.

Spray the rubber hangers with a silicone type lubricant and they will slide right off.

Get dirty!!! Easy install ;)

I know absolutely nothing about cars and I did this myself in less than 30 mins. Just have a wrench handy. I didnt use a jack, i just laid completely flat on my back under the car and unbolted the bolts using the wrench from the stock exhaust. The only tricky part is pulling off the stock exhaust off the hangers which can be a pain in the ass. Then just bolt on the berk piece, hook it to the hangers and you're done.

dish soap also works very very well and is usually readily available

Does this exhaust piece make the engine note unbearably loud? Are there any dyno gains to be had from this modification?

as others said, only basic hand tool will work. use prybary with socket to have leverage if you can't unbolt. hangers will be hardest part on this.

I just finished installing mine. What exactly are these for? Nobody mentions them. Are they supposed to go on the hanger somewhere?

Sorry if this is an incredibly stupid question, but I don't want this new exhaust falling off on the highway.

My install started with unbolting the 2 bolts on the flange. Then I pulled the muffler off of the 4 hangers. 2 of the rubber things are still on the stock muffler, since the delete pipe only has 2 hangers vs 4. I bolted the delete pipe to the flange, and hooked the 2 hangers onto the rubber pieces. That's basically it.

Those look like they should go on the hangers on the muffler delete, after it is installed, to keep the rubber exhaust hangers from sliding off of the metal rod hangers on the Berk piece.

There is quite a lot of drone inside the car with this piece. It was a bit too loud for me, so I had a resonator welded in the pipe between the two tips. Definitely cut down on the drone, especially in the city driving rev range (around 1,000 to 3000 rpm). Without the resonator, a lot of the drone is in that range...with the resonator it quiets it down overall and moves up a bit in the rev range.

Not sure how to explain that better, but basically without the resonator it would drone heavily during acceleration, deceleration, and in the rev range where you are normally driving at city speeds (35-45mph). With the resonator, the acceleration and deceleration drone have quieted down a bit, there is virtually no drone at city speeds, but now there is drone at freeway speed (80mph). Since I do most of my driving around the city, I feel like this is a great trade-off.

Here is a video I made right after I installed it (rest of the exhaust is 100% stock):

Note: The video was taken with the car in the garage, so there is a little reverb in the sound. It gives a good comparison, though.

To answer your final question, I don't believe there are any performance gains as far as power...there is a bit of weight savings, though. The Berk piece is much lighter than the stock muffler piece
