"I would definitely trade my HID's for some Halogen headlights" - Said no BRZ owner ever

They swap directly. Subaruonlineparts.com has them for sale. I believe most BRZ owners will kindly reject your suggestion.

It may be worth noting that while the BRZ and FR-S headlights are interchangeable, the FR-S headlights contain a low beam projector and a high beam reflector with the turn signal in a separate housing, whereas the BRZ headlights contain a single projector for lowbeams and highbeams, and a turn signal in the spot that the FR-S has the high beams.

So while it'd be quite possible for you to buy BRZ headlights and install them on your car and leave one pair of the turn signals disconnected, a BRZ owner with FR-S headlights would not have any turn signals, since the FR-S turn signals are not compatible with the BRZ bumper.

Interesting enough. The advantage will go to the FRS owner with swapping to BRZ headlights. If you disconnect the turn signals (since you will have them from the BRZ headlights) the sidemarkers become turn signals. Someone found this out by disconnecting his turn signal on his FRS. BRZ headlight swap to FRS FTW!

Sidemarkers can optionally flash as additional turn signals, but they are not a safe or legal replacement for the turn signals. That feature should be viewed as a something to allow at least some turn signal functionality in the event of a bulb burning out, while you work on finding a replacement, not as a license to remove your actual parking lights.
