More sounds; metal whirring sound braking to stop in neutral
I have read in multiple areas that keeping the clutch engaged is bad as it lowers the life of the throwout bearing. So as a result I try to keep my car in gear until when coming to a stop and putting it in neutral just before the car stops (to save my brakes as well). I have been hearing a sound intermittently/occasionally when braking to a stop in neutral I would guess around 10mph just before coming to a full stop.. It sounds like something is free spinning and making more noise than it should and lasts about 1-2 seconds before going away. Anyone else experience this? Is it a problem or another one of our transmissions lovely features?
It's hard to get a sound cap as it happens every so often (enough to be worriesome though). |
When the noise happens, watch your tachometer. Most likely your revs are dropping by a couple hundred right as the noise occurs. This is an engine idle issue, it for some reason only happens when slowing down in neutral. A few owners have reported this issue to their dealer and gotten their ECU reflashed, sometimes it helps sometimes not. Good luck!
