DIY phone mount

Hey guys,

have been struggling with phone mounting options in my BRZ for about 2mths now, and have finally found a DIY solution.

I am using an iphone 4s for the moment, but clic-on make docks for heaps of different smart phones with the same mounting points.

Parts used:
- Iphone 4s Thru connector holder
- Male to female 30pin iphone cable extender
- 2mm MDF
- Pebble black trim
- Cable ties

Started off with cutting out a ring to sit flush against the drivers side air vent (84mm)

Removed the air vent, cut the top and bottom off the backing piece then soaked in MDF glue to add some strength. Finally trimmed in pebble black vinyl

Pre-drilled the mounting screws for the dock

test fitting together

Fed the iphone cable extender through the back of the air vent

Tucked the cable in behind the dash, back to the HU input

All back together, air vent is now permanently open as I cable tied the mount to the backing plate, and back or air vent to hold all the bits in

Pat on the back for a job well done :)

Nice write up! I might go this route myself. I hardly ever use that vent and have been wanting something to mount my s3 during autocrossing for the Torque app. What was the total cost of the build??

Thanks!

$125 for the dock, $5 for the cable, the rest I had lying around but whole project cost less than $150
