Location of the secondary amp

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum and my FR-S.

Yes, I've tried a search.......;)

I understand that the standard radio in the FR-S, has an additional amp (other than what is in the head unit). Is this what I'm looking at in the picture?

I recently had the head unit replaced (with a Kenwood DNX570HD) and asked the installer to make sure that amp in the trunk was hooked into the system.

How can I check to make sure it's hooked in?

Should the cover be warm if it's active?

TIA

That's the amp. If you get sound through the door speakers, it's hooked up.

Well, thank you, Gir .....:thanks:

That sets my mind at ease.

Is there anyway to add a sub directly to the stock amp? Not looking for huge thump, just to round out the low end sound.

No. You can get a decent powered sub for under $200.

You could, but the problem is the power wire to that amp is only like 12ga, meaning it's not big enough to run a real sub amp, even a class D.

If you ran another power wire then you might as well run real RCA cables from the deck and hook it all up properly.

Check out this thread for more info on the stock amp wiring:

12AWG is good for 25A, in 60C-rated wire. That's enough to support at least a 150W Class AB amp.

It's not going to knock down buildings, but I suspect for most people it's more than enough.
