HID

will installing HID void warranty?

Draco-REX 06-27-2013 02:06 PM

All BRZs sold in the US have HIDs.

foxhu 06-27-2013 02:07 PM

really? but it doesn't look like the HID that I use to have. so If I wanted brighter I can just change the hid bulb right?

If you want it brighter, you're probably going to be brighter than the law allows and blind oncoming traffic..

well I know but most people in NYC use highbeams on the road and some cars are bright as hell!!! beside with the stock you can't see anything! during rain it's like you don't even have a headlight lol

You are probably talking about the color temperature difference as opposed to actual brightness. If your previous bulb looked more blue, then you were likely 6k brightness or above. As a note, stock HID color temperature is 4.5k, and anything past 6k quickly becomes ineffective.

are you sure your lights are on? because mine throw enough light to illuminate the stop sign a full block away. also check the dial near the fog switch and trunk, if its on 5 your lights are aimed way down

foxhu 06-27-2013 02:29 PM

#6 yes mine was 6k before and it's white to me. 6k is kinda fine for me. but in NYC I prefer 8k and above because the light seems useless. during a wet road.
#7 I normally put them on 2, now It's on 0 because a lot of drivers from where I live have brighter light than brz, so hey mind as well get a brighter light that you can see when they blind the hell out of your eye than get a dark light and can't see anything.

foxhu 06-27-2013 02:37 PM

and yes I googled in NYC there is no law against the limitation of the brightness of the light.

Khazzy 06-27-2013 03:35 PM

so drive with your brights on?

Back to original answer, how bright of a bulb do you want? 10k? 15k?

It's a federal standard.

Stock HIDs are fine. It's just you sit low and that changes the perception. I do think that I see less when it's raining in the dark relative to my previous car with decent halogens. But I think it's not the brightness, it's the seating position and color rendering features of the HIDs.

BRZfan 06-27-2013 07:43 PM

And that ain't bright.

Don't forget boys and girls, the BRZ has a headlight up/down adjuster on the dash.
