Massdrop Groupbuy - BlackVue DR-500 GW Dashcam

Browsing Massdrop, I found this! If it gets enough buy-ins, it'll hit $240 shipped in the US - 25 needed for that price.

You can commit to buy only if it hits $240. Below "Join Now" there's a link for that option.

How is the quality? Some are saying it is having issues with picking up the plates?

Dashcams are really big across the seas like in Russia and other countries, but for one reason or another it just hasn't caught on in the US. IMO seems like more OEMs should be incorporating these into their cars as standard equipment (front and back).

There's a relatively recent article on Jalopnik about dashcams: http://jalopnik.com/why-is-it-so-har...-cam-473093375

Also another really good resource for dashcams is: http://dashcamtalk.com/category/dashcamreviews/

All the technology we need (sensors, etc.) to make a really good dashcam is out there but there are no major company (Sony, Canon, Nikon, HD Pro etc.) who has really taken the dashcam market seriously. The dashcams flooding Amazon and Ebay are primarily off-branded stuff from China/Taiwan/Korea that us Americans cannot relate past brand experiences with. Fundamental requirements unique to dashcams include:

1.) Automatic recording while driving (easy to do to just simply turn on with an ACC signal/Remote Turn-on signal like an audio amp)
2.) Record video in a manner that will automatically overwrite stuff that you don't care to archive for the long-term.

Stuff like WIFI and GPS are features of newer dashcams, but are not fundamentals that make dashcams unique. As most photography people could understand, quality of night recording is also a differentiator between mediocre and better dashcams. Also, as a buddy has shown me you can use your Android phone using Torque, use it in a dashcam mode to get everything integrated (video, bird's eye maps, ODBII data, etc.)... this would be awesome if it were automatic/seamless each time you step into the car.

At the end of the day, the rather pricey $300 BlackVue DR-500 GW Dashcam seems to be the a top choice for many today according to Amazon reviews. Personally, I haven't committed to anything yet but still doing research.

I have mine as soon as it got released.they recently release 2-channel DR500 front & back together but around $100 more. It's really unnecessary on rear one but if it comes with it, why not.

i normally don't spend $200 or more on these type of thing but i paid about $340 shipped with power magic pro. can i pay $400+ for 2channel one? NO
