Kits for auto transmission FR-S?
My knowledge on this is really weak. Are most of the super charger/turbo charger kits available for the FR-S available on the auto transmission platform? If so which ones? Thanks.

I have yet to see a transmission-specific FI kit.
|
I assume the only difference would be the tune
|
Interested to see the limitations on the auto trans.
|
the difference is in the exhaust piping it has to be at a different angle to cope for the wider transmission, 450-500 whp has been put through the auto without issue there are kits that accommodate for the spacing but i dont know which off the top of my head

I was under the impression that the 604 hp full blown was a auto.. Am I wrong.. I thought they only had a auto for testing.. But again.. I could be wrong

According to Vortech's site, their supercharger is for MT only...

Good to know. I want to hear how the AT does with that extra power over time. There are plenty of MT upgrades to deal with the extra power, I don't think I've heard of anything for the AT (for the transmission itself, not that nothing works with AT).

IIRC, a few of the kits were developed on an AT

Strength wise both units can hold up to the power of a mild bolt-on supercharger with ease.

yeah there are autos with 400 whp on this forum so nothing to worry about if under 300 whp on supercharger

It appears that the 6AT in the 86 is much stronger than the 4AT in my XB2. Nonetheless my XB2 had no problem dealing with 250whp/wtq with nothing more than a radiator bypass/B&M 15K BTU cooler and M1 ATF in place of the high-mpg Toyota WS (watery shit). I logged over 60k miles and 20+ 1/4 mile runs on the trans with +100whp/wtq over stock.
Long story short... it's never a bad idea to add an aux ATF cooler when running a AT hard or pushing extra tq thru it. Also, like 0w20 motor oil, thin Dexron VI, Toyota WS, et al are much more for mpg than trans/engine longevity. For HD use I recommend slightly thicker ATF and either a aux ATF cooler or a radiator-bypass with aux ATF cooler with cold fluid bypass. Heat kills AT's. |
