Does anyone know if I can return my old one and just pay the difference since it seems like they're not going to update the app or do anything with the original bespoke head unit?

unfortunately you're 99% likely to be SOL. generally speaking the return policy on electronics is "no return." the dealer can't resell it, and they cant just send it back to the mfg and get their money back. not to mention the fact that the 2014 radio is NOT a recommended part number for your 2013 anyway.
like i told someone else already, if you really want the new head unit, sell your bespoke on ebay ASAP before everyone else starts doing the same thing, then just buy the 2014 head unit. i can get you a head unit for about $500 shipped (or just look online and you can find em for about $525-560 + shipping).
you may be able to get almost that much for your bespoke unit.
