Tire/Wheel Set
 

I'm considering ordering this combination of wheels and tires. Any opinions?

I just looked up the Turanzas that came on my FR-S, I didn't realize they're so light weight. With the same weight and no cost, I would keep my existing tires (I believe someone has said that 215s will mount to 7.5 in wide wheels). The wheels would reduce the total wheel weight by about 5 lbs per wheel. Can you think of another upgrade for $1500 or less that would be more of a performance improvement without voiding the warranty? Plus they make the car stand out a little from stock.

1500$ to lose 20lbs? You won't even notice that. Save your money.

20 lbs of rotational inertia, the quote that keeps going around is 10 lbs per pound in the wheels. Probably not entirely accurate, but there have been testimonials on the forums about handling improvement from lighter wheels. Lighter wheels should provide a small boost to acceleration, braking, and road contact.

Again. Nothing you would notice. What are you going to gain ? 5ft of torque?
My friend got light wheels and a little more stickier tires and I drove his car over and over but couldn't really tell it was faster or better handling. Maybe on a track it will be better than stock but street driving I did not think it made much of a difference compared to my stock.

Found an interesting spreadsheet on the matter, I've now seen three similar ones describing the physics of it (one place that tries to go through all the numbers can be found here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215952). Seems like the total weight loss for acceleration purposes would be somewhere around 25 lbs based on the reduction of 4.9 lbs per wheel (tirerack varies between 15.1 and 15.2 for this model). Another thing I was reading is that the braking performance increase is less than acceleration. I'm going to hold off for now since the hype around wheel weight reduction seems to be suspect right now.

I do want to make the look stand out a bit from the crowd, but I'm not in as much of a hurry without any evidence of an accompanying performance increase.
