Water leaking inside the trunk
1 Attachment(s)
So I was replacing my rear signals to some LEDs and it had just stopped raining here.
I found water leaking through the lightning holes and the gasket for the rear light was very wet. I ran my hand through to the bottom of the trunk as far as I could and it was all very moist. My concern is rust over the years .. Anyone else had this issue? |
There are holes in the body in which many people have reported that the dealers were failing to install the plugs.
I believe there's one around the coil and quite a few on the bottom. Take it to the dealer and have them check to make sure the plugs are installed. I believe the plugs are not installed at the factory due to shipping overseas. It lets the car breath so it doesn't get condensation and start to rust from the salt air. |
The OEM nuts for the tail lights are too small. The flange on the nut doesn't even cover the hole where the stud comes through the body. I noticed the same thing this week before I took the car in for the tail light TSB. In Subaru's latest TSB for the condensation issue, there are new nuts with a larger flange that covers the hole better. You should be able to get them at any Subi dealer. The TSB at my Toyota dealer didnt list the updated nuts, so I don't think they can get them yet.
I went to my local nut & bolt store and got some 3/16" I.D. X 3/4" O.D. fender washers to use with the OEM nuts. They fit the stud perfectly and should be large enough to keep water out. |
There should be 2 rubber plugs in front of the rear wheels on the subframe.
These are used as hold downs in transit. They should be plugged by the dealer as part of the PDI. Check to see if you have them. There is a thread on this if u do a search.. |
Sorry to bring this up again, but didn't want to make a new thread. Will the dealer help with this issue? My trunk is soaked cause of this area in the tail lights.

Even if it's not, I'd suggest you give them a go. Maybe a TSB applies.....?? humfrz |
