What's your opinion about spacers
 

Hey guys, so I'm thinking about running spacers (20F & 25R). What's everyones opinion about them, yey or nay? My FRS is my daily with occasional spirited drive. Are they safe?

Also what brand would y'all recommend?

As long as you get quality parts, spacers are fine. Make sure they are hubcentric. I'm assuming you're going to get the kind with pressed in studs?

I would go with the H&R spacers. In general I am not a fan of spacers and prefer properly speced wheel sizes and offsets, but I understand that sometimes that is not possible when dealing with rare wheels. If you wanted additional safety, I would ditch the cheap studs that come with the large spacers and go with some ARPs instead.

Just buy name brand and you should be good. Eibach also makes them.

Spacers are fine as long as they dont effect the thread in which the lug nuts go on. Adaptors are also fine as long as precautions are made to ensure the assembly is secure without issues of it loosening. The key issue usually with adaptors though are that instead of one assembly(namely wheels and lug nuts) you are looking at double the assembly which adds weight, and the possibility of loosening. But as long as you are aware of what you are doing, there shouldnt be problems.

i wouldnt be able to sleep easy or push my car as hard because i'd know there is something else that could go wrong between my wheel and my hub

I think your worries are well warranted simply because you are essentially adding another assembly onto another assembly... That being said, and on the flip side, there are so many components on machinery that require double assemblies that it shouldnt be a problem... It would mean a personal preference at that poiint...

Powered by max also makes some good spacers. Slip ons and bolts ons are all hub centric and vehicle specific. They have numerous options for the brz/frs

i had a set of 15mm ichibas crack on me while torquing the lugs on the existing studs, very scary. I Believe project Kics makes forged spacers

I went with H&R 20mmF and 30mmR and haven't had any problems with them yet but just had them on for about 500mi. I'd be lying if I were to tell you I have as much confidence in my current wheels with spacers as with my stocks, but given some more time and miles I think I'll be fine. I was extremely meticulous about torquing all nuts to the right spec. One thing is for sure I really like how my +48 offset 7.5" wheels look with the spacers now cause I'm very flush (if you're into that sort of thing). Performance wise I feel it drives slightly different with a wider base but haven't decided if I like it better or not.

Lachute Performance makes hq spacers for the twins as well.

Not a fan of spacers. They change scrub radius up front, lower wheel rates, and aesthetically I hate the look of skinnyish wheels/tires shoved further outboard. I'd put spacer $$$ toward wider wheels with reasonable offsets and wider stickier tires.
