Has anyone taken a closer look at the gas pedal?
So I was installing my Cusco gas pedal tonight, I followed this great DIY that took 2 seconds to remove the OEM gas pedal assembly out in order to easily install the Cusco pedal:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36203 Pedal comes out with 2 bolts and a quick un-plug of a wire: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1368284490 Anyways, when playing with the pedal out of the car, and giving it a closer look, I noticed that the opening that the pedal shaft comes out of, down to the actual pedal, the pedal sits at the top in resting position, and I am able to completely depress it all the way to the bottom point; it travels the entire range of the opening. However, after re-installing the pedal, I noticed it only travels about 90% of the range in the opening before hitting the stopper behind the pedal attached to the carpet, and not the full range like I was able to get with the pedal out of the car. Maybe I'm just thinking of the mindset of a cable type throttle; in which case you would only be giving it 90% throttle if not able to fully depress it, but does anyone with more knowledge of this drive by wire system know if this is significant at all, that you can only travel 90% of the range in the gas pedal? Sorry for the stupid random question; just thought it was interesting, and it was my first time ever really looking over a throttle by wire pedal out of the car. |
Interesting find. Reminds me of this post where they were doing some measurements with the car hooked up to a computer and noticed that at full throttle depress it was only registering 80% throttle open in the ECU.

Sounds like this could be easily fixed with my "raise gas pedal" mod. Put spacers underneath the gas pedal assembly on the two threads for the nuts. See if that fixes the problem.
I raised both gas pedals on my two FRSs ~1cm or more so that I could make heel-toe a bit easier. |

Hi..Adjusting the pedal makes no difference..The electronics limit the WOT to 8X%..
I saw this and spaced the pedal...travel was physically longer but torque still showed same WOT percentage... :-( |

It's drive by wire folks the ecu controls the throttle angle request based on the accelerator angle. After an ecu reset the ecu compares the readings of both sets of sensors (two tps and 2 app i believe) as you drive to determine the maximum pedal travel. This is why you loose throttle response for a few day after an ecu reset. In short you can re map the drive by wire so you get max throttle angle (82 degrees in the midrange with a smooth taper to 79 degrees at redline) at 10% accelerator pedal position if you want to.. though i see no reason why you would. No harm in asking and poking at it, but sadly it won't make any difference in how far the throttle plate opens. :party0030: |
A simple test since its DBW, Im sure they compensate for position.. But you can turn the ignition on, floor it and look in the TB to see the position of the throttle plate.
