Renick Subaru installed the wrong filter!

Took my car into Renick last week for a service and since noticed the occasional smell of burning oil. Upon further investigation, they installed the wrong sized filter and oil is leaking around it. I'm just stunned that they could be that incompetent. I called them first thing Monday morning, and asked them to make sure they had a BRZ filter before I brought it back in to be replaced, but I have yet to hear back from them.

go to your neighborhood auto parts store, buy a replacement one, and install it.

Yes, but I shouldn't have to spend my money. The whole point of free servicing is that it should not cost me money!

carry the receipt back to them, and ask to be reimbursed for the purchase. IF you do not want to spend your money, go to another dealer, and ask for it to be replaced.

That's ok - the point of the thread was merely to point out the incompetence and alert people to check the filter when they pick the car up from a service.. I'm not really worried on how it will get fixed, as I will handle that with them.

I went to Puente Hills Subaru a couple month back to get some oil filters and they game me the blue one too. They told me US Subaru dealers are not getting the black Japan made filters anymore and will only provide the US made blue ones. I hope that's not really true.

I would be ok with that if it didn't leak!!

I bought mine from them but I take mine to Irvine. The sales department was great and they did their best to work out a good deal for me. But the financing department was the worst experience I've ever had buying a car. The guy makes you feel you're buying a lesser car if you don't buy into all of the options.

How's Irvine for service?

Not too bad. I've been pleased with them so far. However, you do bring up a good point of double checking their work and making sure things are good.

I don't like to take my car to dealership unless it's necessary. I would do regular oil change by myself.

It is for that reason I'm nervous about taking it for the tsb on the fuel pump issue..... Can't even get a filter right.

Oil changes at dealerships are sometimes handled by the poorly-trained lube boys (not true techs). Bigger stuff that involves tearing apart components of the fuel system usually involves a higher-level tech or master tech...

Unless you work at a dealership, it all comes down to who the service manager gives the order to. If he likes the lube person, that's who is doing your car lol. Maybe not that extreme but basic idea.
