Alright, so here is my experience with the vortech build. Again, i'm not the best at this so this is my attempt to discuss what I like and dislike about everything. No bias what so ever, just my own personal opinion.


The package:
Everything was in the box as was supposed to be. Everything was packaged very well and very well protected. Everything was very organized and the instructions (cd) are VERY detailed. There are even pictures that can be enlarged to provide instructions with where to drill and grind down etc.

Install:

The install did take the whole day with an hour lunch. So give the start time of around 9am and lunch from 12 to 1pm, the install was finished around 7-8pm. If you are doing the install, I highly recommend taking a look at the instructions before hand so you know what you're getting into. Modifications are necessary, but nothing major. If anything the modifications such as the washer fluid made my life easier with my perrin oil cooler since the lines have more space to move.

Overall, great instructions, modifications needed, not difficult yet time consuming.

The aftermath:

Well after flashing the rom file provided by Visconti and letting the car run for about 15 minutes, it was time to take the car for a little drive after warming everything up and rechecking fluid levels in things such as the coolant, oil, and sc oil. No issues with start up and everything ran perfect. I also have to mention that the kit looks VERY subtle from up front. As you can see from one of my pics up front, the intercooler isn't really visible and if you have the perrin oil cooler as I do, you definitely can't notice the intercooler and your attention is drawn to that dinky little oil cooler haha. Personally, I was going for the OE look since cops around here in the oc/ie can be well, not nice haha. Also in the engine bay, the kit looks good in all black. No shiny chrome stuff. It looks very low key and clean.

Took it out and gave it a little drive and definitely there is a big difference between stock and being boosted. The engine doesn't give you a 4k ass kickin like a turbo does when boost kicks in, but the engine feels like a bigger engine...a rather bigger engine. That was what I was def aiming for. Took it up to about 6k and let the gas off and WHOOSH. Man was I stoked haha. Power is very immediate with this kit and throughout the power band, the power continues until red. You will find yourself being pulled back some in your seat while flooring it. I didn't feel a torque dip and the power distribution is absolutely smooth all the way to red and honestly, the power difference is a little scary at first haha. Visconti did a great job with the tune file. There weren't any issues with things such as knocking or power loss anywhere. Like a turbo you will hear the spool and the bypass valve will whoosh when you let off. I was very surprised to feel the amount of torque that came from the kit along with the amount the rpms would rise. I found myself running through gears MUCH MUCH MUCH quicker than stock and let's just say, it will have you smiling from ear to ear.

pros:
super discrete look when looking from the front
OEM look
not hardcore of an install
rpm jump up rather quickly
improved throttle repsonse
immediate power gains
huge difference over stock
power throughout the power band
spool sounds mean along with the bypass when let off
torque dip not present
feels like a big motor vs the turbo kick at boost
lag is absolutely minimal
makes the frs feel like a car that has the proper amount of power as well as handling capabilities

[B]cons:
nothing wrong with the kit itself as of 08.25.13 no belts rubbing or pulleys coming loose. everything is still great!
issue with popping noise was present with previous tune on visconti which seemed like the DI problem, but with fa20club, there is no popping and the tune from fa20club is BEAST! night and day difference.

Where the heck is the vortech intercooler at?

not at all. vortech is the company that will supply you the kit. rich and john will take your order and submit it. the rest is in the hands of vortech. rich and john have been pushing them to get things going faster, but vortech is currently backed up with all of the other orders as well replacement of older blowers. i'm not sure how i got mine in the time frame that I did, but i consider myself lucky. i just waited. that's all.

Yup this is all true, John sent me the ECUtek kit pretty quick.

I already called Vortech but no luck trying to get an update all they tell me is to contact John, but i dont wanna bother him.

Im all about waiting in line as well, but this doesn't seem correct IMO

Like i said before its either because you live in CA or my order is just floating out there around the vortech office. Kinda crazy you order on the 13th and got it first, play the lottery my friend lol :happy0180:

Is the pipe to the TB smaller than the TB? Looks like there could be a better seal there.

Yes. There is no job that is not doable at home without a lift.

A lift will save your lower back, but I did mine with ramps. You could do it with jackstands.

Just a suggestion, but you might want to find another spot to mount the oil cooler. By placing it in front of the intercooler, you are only going to succeed in compromising the effectiveness of both units. I know the instructions on the Perrin oil cooler say to mount it in that spot, but they probably weren't thinking in terms of an intercooler being mounted directly behind it when they wrote those instructions.

Maybe with some longer lines you could put it behind where the fog lights would go like Full blown did?

All of our testing/proving has been done with the oil cooler in that position.

While this can increase the charge temperatures some amount, it's not enough to worry about.

During our dynoing, (less air flow than what we see on the road) our charge temperatures only got up to about 100F during some 13PSI runs.
