Auto trans manual shift question....
The tC I had previously would remember the highest gear you were in when manually shifting after coming to a stop. You could accelerate away from a stop, and if you had been in third, it would upshift back to third.
I don't see anything in the manual that woul allow you to have the FR-S do this. Is it possible? I'll read it yet again, just in case. |
I'm not sure if you noticed or not but as you speed up or slow down there are arrows up and down that tells you to shift up or down. I hope that helps you

On the AT it shifts back down to the gear most applicable to the speed. So if you are in manual and come to a stop sign it will shift down to 1st. It will not (at least mine does not) down shift itself while in manual, except when you stop. I enjoy the paddle shifters for down shifting, the auto blip helps control your gears when in manual.

Calling all ATs out there.

Perhaps I did not make myself clear: 1. In a Scion tC RS-8, step on gas, manually shift the AT into (for example) third gear. 2. Decelerate. The AT will downshift, winding up in first at a stop. The number 3 remains on the digital gear indicator. 3. Accelerate. The AT will upshift from one to three. IOW, it remembered the highest gear you manually selected. You could also select a gear while stopped (fourth, for example) and it would upshift to fourth and stop there. Can you get the FR-S to do this? Why would you want to? Why not?

No it does not thank god. That sounds horrible. Why would you want that?

Why wouldn't you want to car to remember the highest gear and automatically upshift for you? Simple: how would it know at what rpm to upshift each gear from 1st to 2nd to whatever gear you were in when you stopped? If I wanted to car to automatically upshift, I would have it in auto mode. The whole point of manual mode is so I can (if I wanted) throttle it to redline before upshifting to a higher gear and increase access to torque and horsepower. |
I had an auto 2011 tc and i know what you mean. If you were in 3rd and come to a stop, itll stay lit as 3rd as it downshifts and when you go again itll upshift only to that gear automatically. The frs is more manual in manual mode if you will. If you come to a stop itll go back to 1st automatically and you have to upshift every gear. This is normal. I had the auto frs at first before trading for the mt brz and i had to try to remember to upshift every time lol

Doesn't sound like manual mode if you ask me.
Thank god that's not on the FRS... |

the at in M mode will down shift if the rpm's get too low but will never upshift until you tell it to even at the rev limiter (ive forgotten i was in manual mode one)

Maybe one day a Japanese manufacturer will get it right again as Mazda did on my old '88 626. Manual mode was manual mode and if you coasted to a stop in 3rd gear, 3rd gear is where it stayed until you changed it. I too dislike the way my FRS downshifts for me in "manual mode".
As far as changing the current programming, I highly doubt that it is an option. It's possible but will probably never be offered by Toybaru or the aftermarket. |
