Technical question about oil cooler
Hi,
I was looking at the vastly discuss oil cooler kit and had few question about it(maybe it was already answer but did not find the answer): - There seem to be a lot of question about pressure drop in the oil line, what exactly doing a pressure drop(if high enougth) will cause? - What is the maximum pressure drop in the system(so the system stay stable without any adverse effect)? Looking at Setrab oil cooler, I did not understand how the spec of the pressure drop work, here the example in question(spec from they website): oil cooler SLM 592-6 pressure drop 4.0-4.5 Differential / Gearbox Coolers SLM 592-6 pressure drop 1.5 Why is the oil cooler(SLM 592-6) as two different spec(pressure drop ) depending on which menu you search for the spec(oil cooler or diff/gear cooler)? Is it because of take oil viscosity? Thanks |

In anyways, I decide to go ahead, I currently buiding a custom oil cooler, It will be in the bumper(bumper is being modified right now), did not want to put directly in front of the current radiator for future intercooler upgrade, and wanted more airflow to cool more heat, keep the option for double thickness radiator for later.
The price+trouble is much more higher than the standard kit but I like good integration. By opening the top portion of the front grill, I will gain some new air to cool the oil. I will be using setrab 420-10(10 row), it is spec for 170-200HP, should be enought. We will see, hoping to have everything in 2-3 week. I did find the minimum oil pressure needed in the service manual, and I will monitor oil pressure in the gallery to confirm that everything is within spec. |
