DIY SRP pedal install

2 Attachment(s)
This is a relatively simple install for those that want the SRP pedal for easier heel toe. I didn't find any DIY on how to remove the accelerator pedal from the car so I figure I contribute and write something up.

1. Get under the dash and you will find this---
The red circles are the two 10mm bolts you have to remove
Unattach the plug in the red square and then you can disconnect the entire accelerator pedal complex out of the car

The next part I did not take pictures because it is pretty self explanatory-
You use a screw driver to pull the tabs off OEM pedal cover (on the back of the pedal) and then you attach the new SRP pedal with two supplied screws

Is it a worthwhile upgrade?

don't know yet, it hasn't made a huge difference on the street, but I will be at the track in a few weeks and report back

I bought the cusco one (basically same exact thing, but you retain your stock pedal, so it "raises" the pedal height slightly, which is kind of a nice thing). I really like these wider pedals. If you're like me and you are not any kind of contortionist, it's somewhat difficult to turn your foot 90º to do a true heel-to-toe maneuver, so you wide up doing more of a right-side-of-foot-to-big-toe. These pedals makes "heel-to-toe'ing" MUCH easier.

Good to hear positive feedback on the Cusco unit, just got mine.

I use the same technique for "heel toe", basically roll my foot over to the throttle to blip it, and am not a true heel-toer. I've had more control with brake and throttle pressure that way, and it's been working fine for several years of DE's and Club Racing.

I had the SRP pedals in my CTS-V, and they were nice, but I just did not like the idea of drilling anything, which is why I went with the Cusco piece. They both look very similar, but I think the SRP pedal actually has a more pronounced lip on the left side.

Dang it. I didn't know you can disassemble the gas pedal... I stuck myself under the dash and tried to fit the cusco pedal. It was pain in the ass...

I think it's worth it if you're trying to easily heeltoe in this car. I'm still learning how to.. but it is a lot easier now to hit the gas pedal than before while braking.

One question when removing and then installing the pedal - what are the factory torque specs for the 10mm bolts?

Got the matching set including the dead pedal. Cut out a bit too much carpet for that unfortunately...but screw Subaru for gluing the pedal to the carpet, that's stupid. Gas pedal is supremely useful, way easier to heel toe.

Gudentite! Hand tight, then just a little more...but don't gorilla it.

I've had my SRP pedals on since September and I love them. There's enough grip that you can heel toe in flip flops but not so much that you can't do it in boots. My feet don't ever slip, even when my shoes are soaking wet.

frslee 05-14-2013 09:49 AM

heeltoe is still a challenge for me.

That is why I posted the DIY
I'm hoping to save people some time under the dash:mad0259:

Drilling required though right? It's not that clear in your DIY.

No drilling required. 2 brackets that are provided hold the new pedal and old pedal together.

just to clarify; drilling IS required for SRP pedals, NOT required for Cusco.
