Replace stock hubs with different bolt patern ones?

Is it possible to press out the hub and replace it (along with the bearings that you just destroyed pressing out the hub) with a new one with a different bolt pattern? Say if you want rims that are only available with a different bolt pattern?

greddy did it with their test car - they took current gen wrx hubs i beleive? for the 114x5 spacing

WRX's have always been 5x100, only the STI has 5x114.3.

ah okay - i forget that more wrx's than the uk, we only get the wrx sti so normally we just refer to the "wrx sti" as a "wrx" :P

I recently replaced a wheel bearing, hub, and axle shaft and it caused me to think you could just change out the hub to one that has the bolt pattern you need.

if the diameter of the hub that is pressed in the bearing is identical, and the amount of splines inside the hub is also identical, then technically you can do it.

but usually they will be it 0.1mm off so you can't :/

we won't know until we have these in our hands.

when doing the rs/wrx --> sti converstion people have to also get new axles and diff if they want 5x114 (or get new axles and hubs if they want the 6 speed)

Wasn't it stated that GReddy used the 04 STi hubs? Or did they just use a conversion kit?

for a 1 off make, greddy could have done anything really..

they could have simply re-drilled the stock hubs and welded in new studs just for the fuck of it :/

But they used spacer adapters, they used 04 STI brakes.

There's zero evidence that they used different hubs, but there is visual evidence that the wheels are pushed out farther than they should be, likely due to spacer adapters.

They also had the car for a week, spacer adapters would have accomplished what they wanted with zero effort so they could spend the time on stuff they had to build jigs for like the exhaust.

So basically it can be done but its a pain in the expensive ass.

What does that even mean? I'm just trying to learn about cars and have gotten some very useful information in this little thread. Do you have something to contribute? :thanks:
