HELP! WRONG GAS IN CAR

Hey guys so my dad accidentally put 87 instead of the premium 91 he only put 20$ so about 16L but i noticed a pinging noise more then usual and i asked him and he realized he put the wrong gas in the tanks half empty now but WHAT DO I DO!!!! HELPPPPPPPP

put some octane booster in it and don't WOT, keep mixing in proper gas until replenished

Get the tank as empty as possible, and then throw in premium. One tank of 87 won't hurt.

What the first guy said. Octane boost.

I wouldn't try to run the tank on empty with 87 in it.

Have 94 gas available? I'd fill up with that the next go around and run it as close to empty as you can and then go back to 91 as per usual.

What happens to your engine when you use lower octane? just curious.

It prevents your engine from running as much timing advance as it can. Take it easy on this tank and it won't hurt anything. After you fill up with 91, pull your negative cable for 5 minutes to reset the ECU. Your car will have pulled timing to reduce detonation and you can eliminate this by resetting it.

Go get some 100 octane gas.

For what its worth from a random guy on the Internet, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm about 99% sure mine was delivered with 87 in it in the first tank, as I watched the dealer do it and was so excited about getting the car it completely passed by me until the first time I put gas in it at the same pump and realized what had happened.

You could go ahead and fill it up which will even it out some, or put octane booster in it, but the car will run on the 87 fine.

If you're hearing pinging at part throttle there's something else wrong besides a tank of 87 octane.

Drive the care nicely, keep the revs down and your foot away from WOT and you will be 100% fine.

That said, the ECU is smart enough to pull timing when it detects pinging, so even if you were to beat on it you would be ok, just at a reduced power output.

You'll be fine don't worry. As others have said, fill the rest up with either 91 or 94 and take it easy this tank.
