Track brake pads - front and rear?
 

Just got my Argento 86 and plan on bringing it to an hpde next month. I plan on replacing the brake pads with better ones. Will do a brake fluid flush as well. The pads will be used only on track and will be swapped out after each event. It will be my first time doing hpde's.

My question is, should I buy pads for both front and rear? Or can I get away with just replacing the fronts and using stock ones for the rears?

Also, any recommendations on what pads to use? I'm thinking something from hawk?

Will you be on stock tires?

If yes, I recommend Ferodo DS2500. You can run it on both track and street.

Yeah, I'll stick with the stock tires for at least a few months. Still have to learn the car and how it behaves.

If I use ferodo for both track and street, is can I get away with just the front pads or just replace them both?

if your staying w/ stock tires theres tons of options and youll hear something different from everyone. good luck.

I also use Ferrodo DS2500's for the street and track and I've been very happy with them. I've been consistently placing 3rd in both the FT86 Cup and 86 Challenge events here in CA as well as daily driving the car using those pads. If you're a highly experienced HPDE driver and are looking for the extra couple seconds or tenths of a second to beat the folks ahead of you, then race pads may be in order but if you're still just learning, the DS2500's will be more than enough to start out with.

As for front and rears, I've been using the DS2500's all around. I've been told by faster folks that you want to use matching compounds on all 4 corners and from my own personal experience, the car feels very good with a full set of DS2500's.

Still need to get these on the car but this is the setup ill be daily driving and having fun with!

when do you plan on setting up? im interested in how that setup will work for DD.

Shooting for Wednesday! I'm not too sure how the race compounds for the front are going to be (street able or not) but the HPS's are a solid pad! Wanted a good setup for runs and eventually when I can figure out track days and autocross but still be a streetable setup. I'll be sure to fill you in on my impressions of them. I think from the research I've done and just having buddies who continue to buy these for their cars and swear by them they'll be a good setup.

I hope you're not recommending this 950* F pad to people that are trying to track. You'll hit that temp doing a single 60-1 panic stop.

Track pads typically have a maximum operating temp of 1500-2000* F.

As always, you want to prep your car for the most extreme condition it will be subjected to, not what it will normally be subjected to. Martial artists train for years for that 2 minute (or less) bout. Our cars have 200hp, but how much time do you actually spend at redline WOT compared to the time you spend in the car?

I used work blue front and rear pads only with motul 600 last track day in infineon raceway ,it works not bad.through out the whole day,only one or two times felt brake fading,but all at the last round of the session. So I think with slotted front rotors should be good. Or may be additional air duct cooler for summer.
