Scratches from Window Usage?
Has anyone noticed small vertical scratches forming near the center of the window? I am trying to get a picture of it, its just a hard shot to get. I've noticed them on both sides in the same spots.

Passenger side, dead middle of the window on the outside face. 2-3" vertical scratch that you can feel with your fingernail. I assume it came from the guide ribbon/track on the inside of the door. Haven't bothered with going to the dealer yet for time/they suck reasons.

Also have them. Messed up my tint.

this is a common problem with frame-less subaru doors. The window guides get dirty and scratch the window.
my Impreza had pretty noticable scratches. This is the same as never cleaning your wipers, they will scratch your windshield over time. there are two ways to help prevent this/reduce severity 1. clean your windows! keep a rag in the car and clean the dust off the door windows, esp during warmer weather when you know you'll be rolling them down 2. regularly clean the liner when the window is fully down. Do this often in the summertime. I use a rag with a mild solvent and jam it in there and wipe. and in general, think before you roll down. If you need to roll down your window and you see that it’s REALLY dirty, try not to. You can also do the “fake fur” mod that the impreza guys have been doing for years. You take apart the door to get to the WINDOW GUIDES and clean them or glue on a piece of fake fur, this helps it slide better. Check up on it once a year. |
This is what happens with frameless windows. My celicas all had that "problem".

Wow, I'm surprised so many people have this. It's a pretty stupid issue to have not fixed over the years though. I'm also really good about keeping my car clean so its pretty surprising if that is a contributing cause to the scratches forming. Curious what Toyota/Subaru will say long term.

No scratches on mine but they squeak like crazy when they're wet. Super annoying.

i also sometimes tape a piece of scotch where the guides are and roll up and down a few times to help clean it up the best i can after the impreza i will do everything i can to reduce the scratches. as for fixing, it's a 26k car, you get what you pay for. |

Not as well as I should but I will now, and thanks for the advice, I will definitely try it. It's not bad enough yet to need fixing but my old Eclipse never did that and it was frameless and an even cheaper car. :( |
Just stating that my drivers side has scratches in two different areas of the window.

I've noticed two lines parallel to each other on both glasses driver/ passenger I figured it was the guides. Will the dealer replace your windows if the get scratched from this?

Frameless windows seem to have a lot of problems...scratches, sticking in freezing weather, seals getting messed up, etc.
Any actual pro's to going with frameless over traditional? |
