16" autox wheels
I tried to search but came up empty handed.
Has anyone found a good, light 16x8 wheel that fits well and works well for autox. I would imagine that on stock power, 16x9 is way too much tire. Let me know your thoughts and experiences. |
What class and what tires are you planning on running?
|
I don't autox with SCCA, so my classing is very different
I was thinking 16x8 with a6's would be a lot of fun |
I used to run 16x8 Gram Light 57c wheels with 245/45/16 A6s on my WRX. Unfortunately they stopped making those in a Subaru type fitment (+45 offset) years ago.
The reality is the 245/40/17 A6 weighs less than a 245/45/16, has about the same gearing and shorter sidewall, and 17x8 wheels are plentiful. I wouldn't really run anything narrower than a 245 A6 on a 17x8 wheel for autocross. Those 16x8 Gram Lights were about the same weight as a 17x8 RPF1. Actually here are some I forgot about, Rota Slipstreams. http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=1225 |
Dwx- thanks for the info.
I was assuming I could get better gearing, lower weight tires and lower inertia wheels. For all the reasons you just listed, I'm sure this is why everyone is running 17x8's Would you go wider than a 245? |

Everything is stock right now
My hope was to get wheels/tires that would make me competitive and still allow for growth when upgrading suspension EN2, what class do you run and do all the "fast" people have coilovers and other suspension bits? |

Where do you run in DC that doesn't use SCCA rules? NASA?
I'd say just throw good "street" tires on the stock rims and have fun. Wider tires are not necessarily faster with everything stock. |
I am an organizer with CDC. The classes are based on weight, tire wet rating, and hp.
|
Oh okay. I'd still say just put good tires on the stock rims. I met @Areddi at an event who said he does their events. He might know what would be a good setup for their rules. I stick to SCCA rules since they're the standard.

Yep they do a modifier based on Weight, HP and street or not tires. I would recommend sticking with a 17" like the stock wheels. From my experience, there are more tires available in the 17 size to find what you want at the right price. I am running 225/45's on the stock wheels and they're great.
I don't think anything wider than a x8 is necessary for this car cause you can get up to a 255 on that, and there just isn't enough horsepower for it to matter bigger than that. |
