Would a taller / larger oil filter improve oil cooling?
I'm sure not as much as a true cooler but would a filter say double the height help at all?
|
It's only a filter that is located in the engine bay(HEAT), it is not an air filter where it would suck in cool air. The oil filter's job is to filter metal shavings and/or dirt that somehow made its way into the engine through the dipstick or loose oil cap.
If you are looking for an oil cooling solution, get an oil cooler. If you can somehow manage to get an oil filter that is 20" long that pops out of the hood, that may work as a cooling solution. jk  |
If it fit, it does not hurt. The bigger the filter, the better the oil flow and more oil capacity means better cooling, of course not as much as an oil cooler. There is no need to go to the extreme like an oil cooler if your engine stay near stock. Not to mention oil cooler presents its own problem, leaks, can't replace all the oil, too cold....

It won't do much of anything, no airflow and no real way to disperse heat.
|
You won't have to worry about oil temps if you use an engine bypass kit.
