Getting a BRZ tmw, worry about CEL

All

So its been almost a year since the BRZ/FRS came out and i been following very closely on the CEL issue and it makes me wonder if a year later Subaru has address the issue with the newer models, i checked Carfax with VIN # on the BRZ im getting it shows 2 records not sure what exactly, will ask the dealer tmw.

What do you guys think? should i wait or give it a try?

I just dont wanna mod the car with exhaust, pipe, headers and have that CEL come up and have the dealer blame the mods.

Thanks

I've had my brz since january and over 5000 miles on the car with no cel issues. I don't think it's something you're going to have to worry about.

Check the build date on the car. If your car was built after January 2013, you should be in the clear. If you'll notice, the CEL thread (where people needed a new ECU, cam gears, and/or a reflash to make the CEL go away) has died down considerably over the past few months, and it is quite rare to see someone with a Feb. 2013 build date or later have the CEL problem pop up.

You should also have the dealer also make sure that there are no open campaigns, recalls, tsb's for your particular vin range.

Break-in the car and change the oil and drive it a bit more, and if all is still well...then you should be clear to start the breathing mods...

If you also want some more peace of mind, know that a dealer can't refuse to do warranty work just because you have modifications (Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act). The CEL problem was well-documented
even among stock cars so a dealer doesn't really have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to minor breathing mods (intake/exhaust).

I was very optimistic until today, i seen a huge huge list of people with CEL issues on here

"At low RPMs, an issue is causing the cars to shudder, idle rough, and in some cases stall. And it isn't five or ten cars. FT86 Club has 121 owners listed that have experienced the issue, which means it is probably apparent on more cars that aren't owned by forum members"

Not sure at this point

had mine since september, 7,000 miles. no problems.

Owned mine since July, VIN 18xx. Nearly 23000 KM and no engine related issues! Mind you I did a moderate-(didn't baby it per say, but also didn't redline it) break in and changed the oil at 1800 km which is a little over the break in period. I think you will be fine. Good luck.

Most of those issues were from early and mid 2012 build dates also...

Im a bit relief now, seeing all the replies, will def check with dealer tmw.

Coming from a 2011 STI with countless mods and never had a single issue.

Just wanna be on the safe side.

Hey, it sounds like the warranty support has been great so I wouldn't fret it... I'm about to cross the 15,000 mile mark this week and got one the first BRZ in my local area (31 May 2012). She's had no mechanical issues, and other than that just has what appears to be normal Subaru interior rattles, and the factory head unit sucking ass!

Enjoy your car bro! I LOVE MY BRZ! Always leaves me smiling!

ngabdala 04-21-2013 11:07 PM

10,488 miles no CEL

Sniper2606 04-21-2013 11:15 PM

Well after all the replies i went ahead and made my journal, just waiting on tmw to get my BRzlowww.

Hopefully no issues pop up
