Lightweight Drivetrain Bits Video
Here is a quick video for anyone curious about the effects of a lightweight crank pulley and flywheel on our cars. First segment is stock, second segment adds the GFB pulley set and the final segment is with the pulleys and ACT prolite flywheel + clutch.

The acceleration in 1st and 2nd as the car ramps up feels brutal. Rev matching feels far more sporty now. When the car was stock, it felt like a pretty lazy experience since the car revved up and down so slow. The ACT stage 1 clutch and prolite flywheel is very streetable. It's worth noting that I took the flywheel and clutch cover to a professional balance shop to be balanced as an assembly and they only had to make minor adjustments. It takes a little getting used to but I can launch nice and smooth without issues now. There is a small increase in NVH at certain rpms and while the clutch is pressed in. It's mostly sports car sounds though so I like it. More cues on what the car is doing. I have to say, after stripping out ~150 pounds (35 rotating), the car feels pretty damn fun. Now to start adding powah! ;) |
Not sure if it's because I don't have sound at work, but it didn't seem all that much different. lol

I can't tell if the revs went up any faster but what I can tell is the REVs dropped faster so it's definitely doing something !

slight change in speed, but this is not underload -- so I'm not sure how much you'll actually gain from this. As the previous poster said, drops rpm a lot faster!

There was almost no difference with a pulley alone. With the flywheel there is a pretty huge difference up and down. The car revs up pretty fast stock but has some serious rev hang so its probably easier to notice the difference revving down. The car revs up much faster too, not sure how to quantify that though.

hmmm, have you checked out the AVO DBW throttle controller?
You can lighten the pulleys/flywheel all you want but if you are limited to how the drive by wire throttle is applied, it'll just be controlled to decelerate really quickly... |
i have all the pulleys replaced that you can currently replace, along with a lightweight ACT clutch/flywheel, drive shaft, and a bunch of other parts and i deffinitely notice a difference from what it was before. Its not like FI crazy difference but it is very noticeable and with a short throw and bushings in the transmission makes the car way more nicer/enjoyable to drive as a daily driver and on the track.

I can't say much for this car, but my 97 Integra had a ACT clutch and lightened flywheel, and damn that car felt great compared to others i've driven. |

Ohh the jokes. From experince, the revs are always hard to tell on lightweight flywheels when sitting still. Its the feel and freedom while driving that is noticeable.
